Kerala, often referred to as “God’s Own Country,” is known for its mountains and lush green forests which is home to numerous stunning waterfalls. Here are some of the most famous waterfalls in Kerala:


Athirappilly Waterfalls

Location: Thrissur District
Description: Often called the “Niagara of India,” Athirappilly is the largest waterfall in Kerala, cascading from a height of 80 feet, surrounded by dense forests (Sholayar forest ranges) and forming part of the Chalakudy River.

Meenmutty Waterfalls

Location: Wayanad District
Description: Meenmutty is one of the largest waterfalls in Wayanad, with water cascading over three tiers from a height of nearly 300 meters surrounded by rain forests.  It can be only accessed after an arduous 2 km jungle trek with viewing points for each level and stunning views on the way.

Palaruvi Waterfalls

Location: Kollam District
Description: Located in the southern part of the Western Ghats, Palaruvi, (meaning “Stream of Milk,”) is a beautiful waterfall that cascades from a height of 300 feet. It is known for its milky white appearance and the medicinal properties of its water.

Alakapuri waterfalls

Location: Kannur District
Description: At 4000ft above sea level, the origin of the falls is in forests of Karnataka. Set against a backdrop of evergreen hills and valleys, Alakapuri waterfalls is adjacent to Sasipara viewpoint.

Perunthenaruvi Waterfalls

Location: Pathanamthitta District
Description: Located on the banks of the Pamba River within the deep dense forest of the Sabarimala ranges this waterfall is known for its remoteness. The locality is the home turf of beehives which have bestowed the place with the title Perunthenaruvi meaning the “River of Honey”.

Keezharkuthu Waterfalls

Location: Idukki District
Description: Also known as the Rainbow Waterfalls, Keezharkuthu is famous for its scenic beauty and the rainbow that often forms here due to the water spray.  It is naturally endowed with rock formations that make it ideal for a number of enthralling activities that include rock climbing, mountaineering, camping and trekking.
